Last night's city council meeting

Richmond city council met last evening, December 14, and two items were of particular note for the Shockoe Bottom effort. 

Ord. 2020-240 was passed as part of the Consent Agenda. See it here and in the full list of ordinances and resolutions addressed at the meeting. This ordinance came into the meeting on the Consent Agenda on the recommendation of the Planning Commission. We are in good times when an invisible historic Black cemetery is an uncontroversial addition to the city's acknowledged portfolio of historic resources.

And on the Regular Agenda, the Richmond 300, the city's 20-year strategic plan (two years in the making) was passed unanimously, though with the understanding that amendments will be proposed by January 4 - in time for the next council meeting discussion and vote. Highlighted problems:

1. Insufficient provisions or incentives for affordable housing construction (always more relevant than people like to think it is to the overall scorecard of a city's health and wellness check!), and
2. Impacts of proposed "Destination" and "Multiuse" zoning on historic neighborhoods and other historic resources
